Derek has been active in the New Jersey theatre community since 2008, having spent time with various professional and community theatres alike.

Raised in Hopatcong New Jersey, he began his interest in theatre during high school. During that time he was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Drama by The Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council and the Hopatcong High School Excellence in Theatre Award. Derek then went on to study at HB Studio in New York City, and was accepted into their Hagen Summer Intensive Program in 2010. Derek has been nominated for a Perry Award as a Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Puck in Main Street Theater Company's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Featured Actor for his portrayal of Renfield in Dover Little Theatre's production of The Passion of Dracula, as well as Costume Design for Dover Little Theatre's production of Hamlet.

Derek found his knack for Shakespeare as an actor, performing several of the Bard's comedies and tragedies, but has since taken to directing as well. His directorial debut was Dover Little Theatre's production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Recently Derek directed Hamlet at Dover Little Theatre, where his efforts also included costume design and construction, set design, lighting design, fight choreography, and a portrayal of Laertes.

Derek's favorite role has been Mercutio from Romeo and Juliet.
